Hey pals, how are you all? After a rather hectic summer, where I was around these parts less than I intended, it feels like the right time for a little catch-up, don't you think? Autumn always feels like another new beginning; I don't think that back to school feeling ever really leaves us, and I'm raring to go with so many of my projects now.
I started the year full of good intentions for this blog, as I always do, but life has changed a thousand times since January 1st and so those best-laid plans got a bit thrown out of the window. As you can probably tell, I've fallen head over heels in love with podcasting and so that's where a lot of my creative energy has been going. The second season of Work Like a Mother is now up and running, and I've just launched Readers Gonna Read, and I still feel super passionate about both of them. They're still little baby podcasts but I've got big plans for where they can go, which I'm sure I'll make happen as soon as I have some time...
I'm now back at work four days a week (which is where I'll probably stay for the foreseeable) so I'm having to choose more carefully where I spend my time and energy. My Fridays are for time with Benjamin, and my weekends are for us as a family, but I never want to lose my creative projects and so it's just fitting them all in. So, for now, I'll probably be blogging just once a week. So much of what I want to talk about is being said over on the podcasts or on Instagram, so those are good places to keep up with what's going on with me if you so desire!
Plenty of people more qualified and on-the-ball than me have written about 'the death of blogging' in these busy Internet times, and it's something I think about a lot. I am a blogger at heart and I can't really imagine a time in my life when I let this space go, but there's no doubt that it's just part of a bigger portfolio of stuff that I'm working on now, rather than my main focus. I'm choosing to see that as a good, exciting thing, and it feels kind of comforting to know that my little blog is always here for me if I need to pour my heart out. I do have got some fun blog posts coming up, though - a little look at our new bathroom, which I am dead chuffed with, and a baby blanket knitting pattern for starters.
I've also been making moves to set up a creative day retreat in January. It'll be a day to set intentions and goals for the year alongside a professional coach, relax with a creative workshop and meet other cool women who are doing cool things over brunch and cake. I see so much fun stuff happening down South, and I want more of that in Leeds. I figure there's no point just complaining about it, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is, as it were, and trying to make it happen. I'm just juggling numbers and scouting out venues at the moment, but if you want to stay informed then keep your eyes peeled on Instagram or sign up for my newsletter.
Talking of which, I'm going to bring my newsletter back, so if you want a monthly letter from me in your inbox, alongside all the links I've gathered (I'm probably not going to share all of the things I find on the blog anymore), recipes and books I'm loving and anything else that pops into my head at the time of writing, then please do join me!
When I write it all down like that, it does seem rather a lot - especially with the busy Christmas period coming up - but I'm excited about all of it, and you make time for the things that matter to you, right? And all of this matters to me. I just probably shouldn't do NaNoWriMo on top of all this...
