So, that day has finally arrived! If you've not heard me going on about it - I'm starting a podcast and the first episode is now live for you to listen to over on iTunes, Stitcher and my podcast page.
I had the idea for this podcast a couple of months into maternity leave; I've listened to a lot of blogger and business podcasts in the past but there seemed to be a lack of parents represented. It's all well and good saying that you should use your weekend or after work hours for your side hustle - but what happens when you have a family? It's not so easy to juggle killing it at work with a baby, and so the mothers I saw doing that suddenly became even more impressive in my eyes and I wanted to find out how they did it.
I've got a good few episodes lined up for you, and plenty of ideas about who I'd like to chat to - but I'd also love your feedback and suggestions. I want this podcast to be representative of a whole range of mothers, and I am very aware that, to my shame, my own network is distinctly middle class, white, heterosexual and cisgendered. I'm doing my own research and outreach, but if you have anyone who you think is inspiring and interesting then please do let me know. I'd also like to represent a range of ways of working - from solopreneurs to corporate big shots and everyone in between.
My hope is that this podcast provides some inspiration from mothers who are doing amazing things and also some comfort that you're not the only one struggling to balance family, work and having a life! Everyone's doing it their own way, and the more we share our own stories, the more we find community (and maybe a couple of life hacks, too!). Motherhood can be lonely and difficult and stressful, but it can also be uplifting, magical and energising. It's my intention to show all of those parts, and more, and to showcase some amazing mothers in the process.
I really hope you enjoy the first episode with Emma Cossey - she's absolutely wonderful and I want everyone to know about her and the cool work she does with freelancers. If you'd like to follow along for the upcoming episodes, you can check my Podcast page every Monday, keep an eye on Twitter and Facebook or subscribe on your podcast app of choice. As always, my inbox is open and I'd love to chat more about everything on Instagram and Twitter. Happy listening!
