One of the best parts of having a boyfriend (you know, other than the love, affection and support) is getting a whole new bunch of friends and family. I am so lucky to be with Paul, for many reasons, but partly because he has so many awesome friends and now they get to be my friends too, which is just the best. This picture doesn't even represent all of the awesome people that are part of that group, if you can imagine that.
I am so loving being in wedding season. When I first started going to weddings it was always as the 'plus one' - I actually met this group at a wedding and I didn't know anyone other than Paul, which is a bit of an awkward and anxious situation. They couldn't have been more welcoming, of course, but it's so much better now that I know and love them all. It's so much fun and I am relishing every one because I know that eventually this time where our summers are stuffed full of weddings will be over. Weddings are so fun.
Whatever you think about the institution of marriage - and I do have a lot of Thoughts - there is no denying that an event where everyone gets together to celebrate two people's love is amazing. I love every part. Getting all glammed up in the morning. The anticipation when you're waiting for the ceremony. The 'I do' (I always cry). Milling about whilst the photos are being taken, squishing into group shots and waiting for that one relative who's always wondered off. The welcome drinks and the idle chit-chat. The meal. The speeches (I cry again). The first dance (more tears). The disco, the dancing, the drunken-ness. There's nothing quite like a Great British wedding.
I think I've said before that it is one of my absolute favourite things in the world when this group of Sheffield-ers dance to The Arctic Monkeys at weddings. Not only do they have the accent right when they're singing along, but if 'I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor' comes on at the right time of the evening, the dancing is joyful and uninhibited. It's the best. I'm a happy and affectionate drunk at the best of times, but a few glasses of wine into a wedding and I get so overwhelmed with how much I love everyone, and how lucky I am, and how lucky we all are.
Needless to say, it was a lovely day. We're the next of this lot to get married - so there was a lot of 'you next' being bandied around. We have a lot to live up to - this was such a lovely day - but I'm excited already. And I'm so pleased that this lot will all be there.
