What We Wore to a Wedding

This past weekend, we attended the wedding of our sweet friends Joe and Cheryl in Newcastle. It was a fantastic do at Wylam Brewery (which is a great wedding venue if you’re in the market for one), and our first with Benjamin, who was an absolute champ all day and basically just slept throughout.

It was extra fun picking out an outfit for Benjamin to wear, rather than just focusing on my own glad rags (he wore a matching outfit with his best friend Walter, who is a few months older – the cuteness was almost too much to handle). One day he’ll have his own opinions about clothes, so I’m making the most of being able to dress him up how I like – and I like to think that he’s quite a stylish baby as a result! I could have bought all of the tiny suits in Mamas & Papas but since he’ll grow out of it in a hot second, I saved a few pennies and just went for this adorable polka dot shirt and flat cap combination. He already had a little pair of navy trousers from John Lewis, too, and so the outfit was complete!

Just a few weeks after having a baby is not the best time to be searching for an outfit to wear for a wedding and I found it a little traumatic to try and dress my new shape. It’s not so much that I’m hating my post-partum body (although I also wouldn’t say that I *love* it, either) but just that it is new to me, so I’m not sure how to dress it to its best. A little extra softness around the stomach is all well and good when you’re wearing loose fitting tops and jumpers, but all of my previous wedding outfits were bodycon so I had to search for something new. I have always thought of myself as someone who can’t wear yellow, but it is my favourite colour – so whilst it’s maybe not the most flattering ever, it makes me happy so I decided to just go for it and I’m so glad that I did. This ASOS dress was super fun to wear and dance in, and helped me feel confident when I could easily have gone the other way!

I’ll admit it was a little stressful to have a baby with us all day; although he was super well-behaved, it meant that you couldn’t just flit off to the dance floor or to grab another drink without checking someone was watching him. It was also rather stressful getting out of the house in time (although we then got lost and missed most of the ceremony – much to my dismay!) when you’re not only dressing yourself but also a tiny person. But, as always, it was lovely to be at a wedding with so many of our friends; weddings are where I have made some of my happiest memories and I am sad that we are coming to the end of a run of them. But… not before I am a bridesmaid for the first time at the end of October!

Primary Colours

I know it may be a little crass to show off about your Christmas presents, but I just couldn’t resist with this one. And surely you can understand? This Cambridge Satchel is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever owned: perfectly made, bang on trend (cringe) and in the most wonderful shade of yellow. I can’t generally wear yellow, it makes me look ill and sallow, but it is my favourite colour so this is the perfect way to indulge my love without inviting concerned comments about my health. Plus, it smells incredible; what more do you want from a bag?

I am always so inspired by bright colours. If it was up to me my house would be decked out in watermelon pinks, lime greens, sunshine yellows and tangy turquoises, and I would be similarly clad. Other people make black and neutrals look so stylish and chic, but when I see the outfits of bloggers like The Magpie Girl and Shiny Thoughts I am always bowled away by the potential and the joy that comes from wearing colour. Now that my hair is bright, I want all my outfits to be too!

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

I love a good Christmas jumper. This one from ASOS is beautifully soft, and just subtle enough that I can wear it in November with no qualms; wait until December, I’ll be pulling out the big guns. We’ve got a Christmas Jumper Day coming up at work, and I’m excited to see everyone in their festive finery! Although winter is a bit bleak in weather, I enjoy the excuse for snuggly fabrics; this gold velvety skirt is gorgeously touchable and fuzzy – and what better colour for the run up to Christmas?

The sun was in my eyes!

These are the boots that I got from Judy’s Vintage Fair, and I love them! A beautiful black-y brown worn leather, riding boot styling and the first pair of flat boots that I have loved unconditionally.  All in all, a super comfy way of celebrating the upcoming Christmas period! Wore this today for Sunday roast and winter Pimms, the perfect November afternoon. How are you all wearing your Christmas jumpers?

Autumn Sunshine

The sun was shining today, which made it the perfect opportunity to try out ankle socks and boots for the first time! The lack of sunlight this year has made me really embrace the pale, and I’m enjoying going for an English Rose sort-of look with rosy cheeks and my new red hair. My new hair colour is making it possible to wear all sorts of new colours, like this gorgeous textured green dress from Topshop, and it’s making me feel very autumnal! Plus, I’m a sucker for a flippy skirt. It does mean that all the pink and pastels I invested in over the summer are a little redundant right now, especially since I plan on going even redder over Christmas. I’ve got the bug now! If any redheads want to give me tips on what colours are best to wear, it would be much appreciated!

Cats With Bow Ties

So, like any wannabe lifestyle blogger – I had to give outfit posting a try! And surprisingly, the dirt track out the back of our house looks a little bit picturesque!

Do you remember this video which went viral a while back? This dress always reminds me of that! Love the cutesy print, and paired with these beautiful brogues it makes me feel whimsical and a little bit Enid Blyton.

I know it’s blasphemous, but I am a little bit excited about Autumn. I much prefer my cold-weather wardrobe to my summer one!
